WMU football press conference, week 8: Broncos enter rivalry week against Eastern Michigan

WMU football has been given 12-1 odds of winning the Mid-American Conference this upcoming season by the Las Vegas Superbook.

Those odds put them in a tie for sixth-best in the conference with Miami (OH). Ohio currently has the best odds at 2-1.

Head coach Tim Lester enters his fourth season at the helm of the Broncos after making a bowl game in two of his first three years. The Broncos have been .500 or above in all three seasons.

Last season, WMU finished 7-6 after losing in the last week of the season to Northern Illinois in a game that would have sent the Broncos to Lester’s first ever MAC title game with a win. The Broncos closed 2019 with a last-second loss to Western Kentucky in the First Responders Bowl.

WMU will be turning to a new starting quarterback in Kaleb Eleby in 2020 after Wuerffel Trophy winner and three-year starter Jon Wassink graduated from WMU this spring. The Broncos will also have a new faces lining up at halfback after LeVante Bellamy graduated and moved on to the NFL after leading the FBS in rushing touchdowns in 2019 with 23.

The Broncos are scheduled to open its season on Friday, Sept. 4 against Colgate.
