Western Michigan baseball player Connor Charping has been honored as one of two MAC Preseason Players of the Year by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

The senior catcher/outfielder was a First Team All-MAC selection and CoSIDA Academic All-American just a year ago, as he was the main catalyst for the Broncos’ success. He played and started in every game for the Brown and Gold in 2021, leading the team in batting average, runs, hits and stolen bases. His .351 batting was also good for the fifth in the MAC, while his 32 stolen bases were a program record and ranked fourth nationally.

This is the second year in a row that a member of the Broncos was chosen as Preseason Player of the Year, as outfield and future 15th round MLB draft selection Blake Dunn was picked in 2021. First baseman Justin Mcintyre, starting pitcher Easton Sikorski and pitcher Jack Huisman were also mentioned as players to watch for during the upcoming season.

Charping and the rest of the squad will kick things off in 2022 with a three-game series against Kentucky on Friday, Feb 25.
