WMU Hockey

Western Michigan hockey was picked to finish sixth in the NCHC in the Preseason Media Poll, which was announced Wednesday.

St. Cloud State was picked as the favorite, receiving 20 out of 25 first-place votes. Other schools receiving at least one first-place vote were Minnesota-Duluth (3), North Dakota (1) and Denver (1).

WMU had junior defenseman Ronnie Attard earn Preseason All-NCHC honors, also voted on by the media. SCSU had a pair of players earn preseason honors in forward Veeti Miettinen and defenseman Nick Perbix.

Last year, the Broncos finished sixth in the conference but ended the season on a five-game winning streak after struggling out of the gate. This will be the first year for the Broncos under new head coach Pat Ferschweiler.
