Western Michigan women’s tennis earned a 6-1 win over Northern Illinois Sunday to finish a 2-0 weekend.
In doubles play, Ana Guadiana and Kaitlyn Rogosch won, 6-1, at court No. 2 and Lindsey Zieglar and Karin Hamilton won, 6-3, at No. 3 to secure the doubles point. Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Kristina Tiraspolsky were tied 5-5 with Maria Potsi and Anastasia Rakita on court No. 1 before their match was ended with WMU already winning the point.
In singles action, Hamilton was the first to finish with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4. Maya Perkucin also earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5, and a 6-3, 6-3 win by Rogosch at court No. 6 sealed the win for the Broncos. Guadiana, Tjon-A-Joe, and Zieglar would all need third set tiebreakers, with Guadiana finishing first with a 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 win at No. 2. Tjon-A-Joe earned a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 win at No. 1 while Zieglar suffered the Broncos’ only defeat of the day, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6.
After a 4-3 win over Buffalo on Friday and Sunday’s win over NIU, the Broncos are now 5-1 in the MAC and 13-1 overall this season. WMU returns to the court April 9 at Toledo after a week off.
