Western Michigan’s Jannik Opitz and Zac Faveri were named MAC Men’s Tennis Co-Doubles Team of the Week for their efforts in WMU’s win over Wayne State.
Opitz and Faveri improved to 9-0 on the year with a 6-4 win over Wayne State’s Dom Spicer and Luke Laws. The win helped WMU to a 7-0 win over the Warriors that moved the Broncos’ record to 8-1 on the year.
The win also allowed Opitz to tie Michael Calderone’s 216 career wins for first place in program history. He would become the school’s outright leader with a win in singles play later in the matchup.
This marks the second time that Opitz and Faveri won MAC Doubles Team of the Week this year and the fourth time that a duo of Broncos have won the award.
WMU men’s tennis has three matches this weekend against Cleveland State, Drake and Youngstown State. All three matches will take place at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo.
