Western Michigan men’s basketball was trounced by Iowa 109-61 Monday.
The Broncos scored first to lead 2-0. The Hawkeyes tied the game 2-2, took a 5-2 lead two minutes and 26 seconds into the game and never trailed from that point.
Iowa’s Keegan Murray scored the first 17 points of the game for the Hawkeyes as it jumped out to a 17-8 lead. Murray was the leading scorer in the game with 29 points.
Western Michigan again struggled taking care of the basketball. WMU turned the ball over 24 times leading to 36 points off turnovers for the Hawkeyes. The Broncos shot 29.6% in the first half, trailing 49-20 at halftime. With a -29 betting line advantage, Iowa matched it by halftime.
The offense improved for the Broncos in the second half shooting 44.4%. Lamar Norman Jr. led the Broncos with 19 points on 5-12 shooting from beyond the arc. He also led the team with six turnovers. Mack Smith led the Broncos with five assists to go along with 12 points and six rebounds.
The Broncos next travel to Fort Myers, Fla. for the Hilton Garden Inn FGCU Invitational. The Broncos square off with host Florida Gulf Coast Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
