Western Michigan track and field team finished the Hilltopper Relays hosted by Western Kentucky with four event wins this weekend.
Senior Aniya Davis won both the hammer throw and the discus, which she won for the third straight meet reaching a maximum distance of 158’6 (48.32m). Her winning distance in the hammer throw was 174’1 (53.06m). Junior Madison Ochs took fifth place and senior Taylor Eaton reached sixth in discus, while Eaton also placed second in the hammer throw.
Juliane Sormain won the 800-meter run for the second time this season. Sormain achieved a season best time of 2:12.41, which eliminated .68 seconds from her previous season record which she set at the ADIDAS Winthrop Invitational. Sophomore Annalise James finished first in her first steeplechase competition of the year. James ran a time of 11:36.27 to earn the win. Kaitlyn Mince finished fourth overall with a time of 12:26.05. Finally, Rebecca McNamee achieved third place overall as WMU’s top finisher in the 1,500-meter run. McNamee ran a time of 4:35.65.
Western Michigan will head to Drake University for the Jim Duncan invitational on Friday.
