Sophomore Payton Murphy was named the Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week after earning a 39.325 all-around score in the Eagle Invitational this past weekend, the second-best all-around score in program history.
Murphy scored a 9.900 on the balance beam, the third-best score in team history, a career-high 9.875 on the floor and tied her career-high score on the vault with a 9.800. Murphy finished the day with a 9.750 on the uneven bars.
The comeback story continues for Murphy after her freshman season was cut short due to a season-ending injury suffered after the first meet. Murphy is the first Bronco to earn a MAC gymnastics weekly award since Feb.12, 2020, when Amelia Mohler earned Co-Specialist of the Week. Murphy is also the first Bronco to earn Gymnast of the Week since Rachel Underwood in January 2019.
The Broncos return to dual meet competition on Saturday when they face Bowling Green on the road at 4 p.m.
