Western Michigan shutout Ohio 1-0 at home to earn their first conference win of the season. The Broncos responded well after tying their Mid-American Conference season opener just a day earlier.
The first half was all defense for both teams with each only getting one shot on goal. It was a wet day at the field with each team taking time adapting to the playing surface.
The second half had more offense from both teams with Western leading in shots 12-6 and shots on goal 6-5. The only goal came in the 63rd minute when sophomore Morgan Otteson scored on a header from a cross by Grace Labadie. Otteson now leads the conference in points per game with 1.63 and has a team high five goals.
Maggie Rogers earned the shutout in net saving all 5 shots that came on goal getting her third win on the season. The Broncos earned their second shutout on the year against an Ohio team who averages two goals per game. WMU also earned their first win against the Bobcats since 2016.
Western Michigan (3-5-1) will continue MAC play on Friday in Mount Pleasant as they battle rival Central Michigan (5-0-2).
