Western Michigan baseball plays their second to last home series of the season, squaring off against Eastern Michigan this weekend as part of a three game series.
It's a crucial series for Billy Gernon's team as they have 10 games remaining to jump Ohio in the MAC standings in order to qualify for the six-team MAC Tournament field. Ohio sits at 9-9 in the MAC, three games ahead of Western Michigan. The two teams will meet in Kalamazoo, May 16-18 — the final weekend before the MAC Tournament begins.
As for Eastern Michigan, they too will be looking to make up ground on Ohio entering the series. 6-12 in the MAC, EMU has been on a much needed hot streak, winning three of their last four games after sweeping Toledo last weekend.
They'll feature senior RHP Jackson Shaver — the 6'6" Grand Rapids native is still searching for his first win of the season. WMU will start LHP senior Chris Modrzynski, who's settled into his role, winning his last two of three starts.
The Broncos hold a slim advantage in the series all-time, 89-87 as the last time the two teams met, WMU defeated the Eagles 12-5, May 1, 2018 in Ypsilanti.
