Western Michigan men’s soccer defeated Bowling Green in a tightly contested matchup 2-1. The Broncos dominated the first half with two quick goals before a slow second half by both teams.
The Broncos started the action of the day in the 14th minute of the game thanks to a Dylan Sing goal, scoring his fourth on the year. Four minutes later, Mike Melaragni scored a beautiful header in the 18th minute to extend the Broncos lead.
The Falcons scored its only goal of the match in the final seconds of the first half when Jacob Erlandson scored his third goal of the year by sneaking a shot past some Bronco defenders that were in goal.
At the end of the first half, the Falcons had outshot WMU five to two, with the Broncos shooting 100% in the half. Isaac Walker played stellar for the Broncos only letting up one goal on the day on two saves, although he did not see a lot of shots, Walker was solid on the defensive end, showing how goalies do not need to see a lot of shots to be effective.
The second half was ultimately slower, with Bowling Green only having three total shots to WMU’s one. The game was played in the middle of the field mostly, with no team giving an inch throughout the day.
Next up for WMU, the Broncos travel to Akron to take on the Zips at 7 p.m. next Wednesday.
