WMU men's soccer huddle

The Broncos historic season came to a close in the Sweet Sixteen in a shutout loss to Portland

The Mid-American Conference announced today it will suspend sponsorship of men’s soccer following the conclusion of the 2022 season. The decision marks a massive change to the landscape of collegiate soccer. Since 1993 the MAC has sponsored men’s soccer annually. Western Michigan takes on Akron Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the final MAC title game.

WMU Athletics announced WMU men’s soccer will play future seasons in the Missouri Valley Conference. Teams in the conference include Belmont, Drake, Evansville, Illinois-Chicago, Missouri State, and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. MAC opponents Bowling Green and Northern Illinois will also join the Broncos in the switch to the MVC.

The MVC is a top 10 RPI conference and has one currently ranked team in MSU. The Broncos aim to bring competitiveness to an already historic conference. It set a new program record of nine consecutive wins in 2022 and boasts a record of 86-37-22 since 2015. WMU has a record of 14-11-5 against current MVC teams.

The final MAC title game can be streamed on ESPN+.
