WMU Hockey Ethen Frank

Ethen Frank leads all of college hockey with 17 goals so far this season. He was named one of 77 nominees for the Hobey Baker Award for his play.

The Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the best player in college hockey, announced its nominees for the 2021-22 season Wednesday and Western Michigan’s Ethen Frank was among the list of student-athletes in the running.

Frank was one of 77 nominees, and fan voting is open from now through March 6 as part of the process of trimming the nominees to 10 finalists. Fans can vote at hobeybaker.com/awards/vote-for-hobey/.

Hobey Baker Award nominees are selected based on strength of character on and off the ice, contribution to the integrity of the team and outstanding skills in all phases of the game, scholastic achievement and sportsmanship, and compliance with NCAA rules, including being a full-time student and competing in at least 50% of the team’s contests.

Frank leads the NCAA with 17 goals and 0.89 goals per game. He also has seven assists to give him 24 total points, good for 1.26 per game. He has helped WMU to a 14-5-0 start to the season and a program-best No. 3 ranking in both major national polls.
