WMU men's soccer continues to recruit the best talent in Michigan

Mike Melaragni

Mike Melaragni earned the first MAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week award of his career, as the conference named him and Bowling Green’s Chris Sullivan co-players of the week Monday.

Melaragni scored both goals in Western Michigan’s season-opening win at Butler last Wednesday. The Broncos earned a 2-0 win over the Bulldogs in its first of three out-of-conference games this season.

The first goal Melaragni scored came at the 16:49 mark to put the Broncos on the board first. His second goal also came in the first half at the 35:31 mark, and WMU held that two-goal lead for the remainder of the game.

Melaragni had two goals total last season and five in his career entering 2021. This was the first multi-goal game of his collegiate career.

WMU returns to action Friday against DePaul from Westfield, Ind. The game is set to start at 3 p.m.
