Western Michigan hockey defenseman Michael Joyaux earned the Bauer NCHC Defenseman of the Week Award for his play in the Broncos’ series against Michigan.
In Friday’s series-opening 5-2 win, Joyaux collected two assists and blocked seven shots. Saturday in Kalamazoo, Joyaux picked up two more assists. Joyaux played a prominent role on special teams where the Broncos shined all weekend.
Joyaux assisted on three of the four power play goals scored by the Broncos, as WMU went 4-8 with a man advantage in the series split. He also logged plenty of minutes on the penalty kill, as WMU allowed just one goal in 11 power play opportunities for the Wolverines in the series.
Joyaux is now tied for a team high with six assists on the season and leads the Broncos with 10 blocked shots.
Joyaux and the Broncos return to action Friday at 7 p.m. for the first game of a weekend series at Colgate.
