Spring 2020: University dates and deadlines to remember

Western Michigan University will resume classes virtually Jan. 11 and return to in-person, as indicated on class schedules, beginning Jan. 19, due to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services revised emergency order. 

With this order, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer asked that all colleges and universities wait until Jan. 18, to begin offering in-person classes and delay student move-in to the immediately preceding weekend.

Here are some other important dates for the rest of the semester:

January

7-8: Advising days

8: Tuition and fees due

11: Classes begin at 8 a.m.

15: Last day to drop/add

15: Last day to receive 100% refund

16: Residence halls open

18: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

19: Census Department cleanup

20: $100 late add fee begins

20: Begin recording withdrawals with 

a final grade of "W" on the transcript

21: Last day to receive a 90% tuition refund for a complete withdrawal

25: Last day to receive a 50% tuition refund for a partial withdrawal; SUM I and II 2021 course offerings open for viewing

February

1: Last day to apply for June, Aug. and Dec. 2021 graduations

8: SUM I and II 2021 registration begins; last day to receive a 50% tuition refund for a complete withdrawal

24: Fall 2021 course offerings open for viewing

March

8: Midterm grades due

22: Last day to withdraw from classes

26: Spirit day (no classes but the University is open during normal business hours)

29: Spring recess begins

April

2: Spring recess ends

5: Classes resume as online or distance education (except for classes that support degrees that require continued hands-on learning throughout the term)

26-29: Final exam week

May

1: Semester ends

1: Commencement

4: Final grades due
