Western Michigan University is improving student safety and accessibility on campus by installing new lights on the path next to Kanley Track.
The lighting project was originally delayed due to COVID-19, but the walkway is now well lit for students with the six new street lights.
“All of our new lighting on campus uses LED technology,” said Peter Strazdas, Associate Vice President of Facilities Management. “They use less energy and last longer.”
A completed sidewalk between Valley Dining and the Intramural Fields, as well as modifications such as the installation of additional Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant door assists and curb cuts, have also been installed on campus.
“Our collaboration with Public Safety and other groups on campus helps us identify needs and prioritize them with our limited resources,” Strazdas said.
