Campus-wide internet failings make Valley residents nervous for online classes

With spring classes going virtual after spring break, Residence Life is allowing students with all online classes to cancel their housing contracts for next semester, according to an email from WMU Housing.

Students with all online classes will be allowed to cancel their housing contract without penalties by 5 p.m. Dec. 18 to receive a credit for the whole semester. Students must be signed up for all online classes by the time they do.

Students that decide to cancel later than Dec. 18  will be subject to the credit that will be given during spring break. If students apply to cancel their contracts, they will have a housing and dining credit applied to their account. If there are outstanding fines on your account, the credit will be applied to the outstanding fine first, then the remaining credit balance would be applied to your account.

When classes go virtual, students can return to their dorms until the end of the semester if they choose to do so. If they choose to leave, they can apply for a credit for the time after they leave.

If students apply for the credit post spring break, they must:

  • Complete the early move-out request by 5 p.m. Feb. 26, 2021.

  • Be living in the residence halls during the fall 2020 semester as of Feb. 4. These credits are not available to students who move out of the halls on Feb. 4 or before.

  • Check out and turn in your keys, per the checkout process established in your hall, on or before March 26, 2021. If you do not check out on or before March 26, 2021 and turn in your keys, your account will be adjusted and you will be responsible for the full amount of room and board originally billed to your student account.
