Student Rec Center to host New Year open house

The SRC invites students and staff alike to partake in a day of free activities and personal fitness classes.

The WMU Student Rec Center will be hosting an open house event on Wednesday, Jan. 15. The event, fittingly titled “New Year, New You” will be a day-long event with activities happening from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The open house will feature a variety of fitness programs and games, from yoga, zumba, and F45 classes, to a dodgeball tournament, and even the opportunity to work one-on-one with a personal trainer. Everything at the event will be free to access for WMU students and employees.

“The idea [for the open house] just came from wanting to promote something for the New Year on being healthy and fit,” said Taylor Jackson, the graduate assistant of fitness and wellness programs at the SRC. “A lot of our events are based on de-stressing and finding some mindfulness, which is really good for when the semester gets stressful.”

The SRC has been putting on the “New Year, New You” open house since 2016. As in years past, the open house will also feature contests and raffle giveaways of a variety of prizes for those who choose to partake in them.
