Michigan summer festival season right around the corner

2018 Kalamazoo Blue's Fest

Around the state, Western Michigan Broncos are gearing up for the festivities that come with a Michigan summer.

Communities throughout Michigan all have their own way of ushering in the warm weather and the tourists and many towns and cities have their own festivals and array of music performances.

Many of these local festivals around the state are music festivals and are a popular summer destination for those throughout Michigan.

Close to home in Kalamazoo is the 26th annual Kalamazoo Blues Festival which will be taking place at the Arcadia Festival site. It will be hosting blues musicians and several performances on July 12 and 13.

Another festival in the area is the Battle Creek Caribbean Festival. The third annual incarnation of this festival will feature booths and attractions dealing with Caribbean culture and food as well as a lineup of Caribbean and Reggae music that is yet to be announced. The festival will take place on July 20.

Moving a little farther north on the map to Grand Rapids, the 12th year of Founder’s Fest will be taking place.

The annual music and beer festival will be hosted at the Founders Brewing Co. and will feature a lineup of soulful acts including Macy Gray, Toots & The Maytals, and Gov’t Mule. The event takes place on June 22 and is a 21 and up only event.

One popular destination every year is the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan that boasts a variety of family friendly parades and events as well as a fine musical lineup in its weeklong duration. This year, the festival will see names like Styx and Nelly as well as comedy acts from Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias and ventriloquist Jeff Dunham.

Traverse City will also be hosting their annual Film Festival set up by filmmaker Michael Moore later in the month of July and early August.

A rather large and popular music festival is the Faster Horses Country Music Festival that will take place in Brooklyn, Michigan on July 19-21. This year’s headliners include Keith Urban, Toby Keith, and the Zac Brown Band.

Another popular festival is the Electric Forest Electronic Music Festival from June 27-30 in Rothbury, Michigan. The four-day festival’s headliners include Norwegian DJ Kygo and American DJ Bassnectar.

Also, there is the Big Ticket Festival which will be coming to Gaylord, Michigan on June 26-29. This annual festival focuses on worship and praise music and will feature performers such as Chris Tomlin and For King & Country.

There are a number of other festivals and music performances around the state in addition to these, such as the Summer Solstice Jazz Fest in East Lansing and the Venetian Festival in Charlevoix.

Wherever you find yourself around the state this summer, there will be an abundance of entertainment and festivity.
