Get out your floral, your bold prints, and your chambray because spring has finally sprung.
It is time to brighten up our wardrobes and let some sunshine in with the fashion world’s latest trends.
In fashion, trends are cyclical, and what we’re seeing in this new year, decade, and season – everything old is new again. And this spring, what style forecasters are seeing is color in a plethora of styles and trends for everyone to choose from. So bring on the sunshine in everything from ultra-feminine to slouchy menswear.
Color: Both pastels and bolds are big this season. With pastels, the biggest colors of the season are mint and lavender. However, the colors we girls remember from Easter dresses past are totally back again. The pastel color trend is huge even in makeup. So when picking out the perfect colors for a manicure or pedicure, try shades of mint or lavender – you can’t go wrong.
The bold shades forecasters are saying what will be huge this spring and summer is royal blue and vibrant purple. Royal blue, if it hasn’t already, will be blowing up quick. Royal blue has been seen a lot in dresses, so if you’re planning on attempting a maxi dress, pick one up in a royal blue and your skin tone will thank you.
Short Shorts: They are very vintage, very sexy, and will make your legs look like they go on for miles. They can be dressed up with flats, a slouchy tank and a fedora or dressed up with towering heels and fire engine red lips. The pin-up look is still big and short shorts have been sported everywhere on designer runways. Don’t be afraid to get leggy.
Wedges & Flats: The summer shoe styles are usually pretty basic: sandals, flip-flops, tennis shoes but not this spring and summer. The wedge has seen a recent resurgence in a big way. Cork and wood wedge heels need to be in your spring wardrobe. Flats are still big and are being paired with menswear/the boyfriend looks. Flats can be the statement in your slouchy boyfriend look. Some major styles are Mary Jane and t-strap flats.
Rompers/Jumpers: This trend gained prominence a little bit last summer but it has totally taken off with how versatile they are. They work in all seasons and depending what they’re paired with can be casual or totally dressy. Jean/Chambray styles are being seen everywhere and with chambray being a big deal again this spring; you’d be totally on point. Rock the short style for the day and a longer, lighter fabric romper at night; it’s more dramatic.
Menswear/Safari/Vintage/Throwback: I know I’m adding a lot in this section, but I kind of feel like it all fits. Menswear is still big but it’s more of the slouchy boyfriend look; rolled cuffs on loose fitting pants, men’s buttons downs, blazers and cardigans.
The safari look has been brought back with moss, forest green garments, cargo pants and skirts and that deep tobacco khaki. Think Khloe Kardashian in her moss green cargo capris and fitted v-neck top – it’s the perfect vacation, touring-the-sites look.
Vintage is huge this spring for prints in dresses and skirts and majorly in jewelry. Go raid your grandma’s closet, there may be some trendy pieces and you’ll be the only one that has them. With throwback I mean, what’s old is new again… just modified. Styles from the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s are coming back (it’s what is scaring our mothers) so take this time to play with the trends of the past decades.
Chambray: This is something we wore a lot as little girls. This spring, we’ll be wearing it again in jumpers, sundresses, hair accessories and even shoes. Chambray is very feminine. You can either go ultra girly with it or soften up a menswear look. It screams youth, innocence, and femininity.
Prints/Floral: Use this trend up. This spring will be the season of patterned ensembles. But remember to wear them one-at-a-time. Floral has shown up in every trend from head-to-toe. Prints have never seen so much time out of the closet. Don’t be shy or afraid of a crazy, bold print. It’s eye-catching and exudes confidence. If you’re nervous, start small with a t-shirt or skirt and pair with just a solid. You’ll get compliments left and right.
My advice to you is to be bold this spring. These trends are definitely ones that are, in the end, staples in your wardrobe. Scoop them up and try them out. It’s the step in the right fashion direction for this year. So lets color this 2010 spring bright and lively.
