Working Together in 2010

This is the year – your year! After the ball drops and the celebrations end, it’s time to hit the gym! Every year, losing weight or getting in shape is one of the most popular resolutions.
However, according to Proactive Change statistics, after 6 months, more than half the people will have given up.
So how can you stay motivated?
“I think working out in groups is much more effective,” said WMU student Mackenzie Waite. “It’s easier to push yourself and keep going when there are other people right there with you working hard.”
The Student Rec. Center offers many fitness programs such as Aerobics classes and Cyclefit classes all semester long. These are held throughout the day and last from thirty minutes to an hour, depending on what class you choose.
Classes cost between $2 and $4 and give students the chance to not only work out with one another, but meet new people.
Marissa Damon, an aerobics teacher and junior at WMU said people are a lot more motivated to keep going in these classes. She said having them at a set time is a good way for people to stick to their resolutions.
Waite agreed and said it’s harder to put-off going to the gym if you know you have to be there at a certain time.
“I am looking forward to trying some new classes during this semester,” said Waite.
