In their home match against DePaul University, Western Michigan’s women’s tennis team fell to the Blue Demons 5-2. This brings the Broncos to 7-4 for the season.
In doubles, WMU’s women were unable to seize the doubles point from DePaul, despite their early win at no. 2 due to the efforts of Caroline Aleck and April Kerr. Western’s duo bested the Blue Demon’s Patricia Fargas and Rebeca Mitrea 8-4.
In singles, the Brown and Gold won the last two matches of the day at nos. 5 and 6.
At no. 5, WMU’s Maria Nivia defeated Rebeca Mitrea 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
The match at no. 6 also was determined in three sets, but in the end, Caroline Aleck was one again victorious. Aleck beat out DePaul’s Carolin Neumann 6-4, 0-6, 7-5.
The Lady Broncos get a week’s break before heading to Lansing on Feb. 24 to face off against the Michigan State Spartans. The match begins at 5pm.
