(Chyn Wey Lee/Western Herald) WMU sophomore defender Caitlin Henderson dribbles the ball in a game against Ohio on Oct. 4. Henderson scored the Broncos’ only goal against Ball State Sunday.
The Western Michigan University women’s soccer team clinched a spot in the Mid‑American Conference tournament on Sunday, despite only managing to tie the hosting Ball State University Cardinals, 1‑1, in Muncie, Ind.
The Lady Broncos now hold sole possession of the seventh seed with only one game remaining. The WMU tie coupled with the Kent State University loss, moved the Broncos to a half game lead over the Golden Flashes in the MAC standings.
The University at Buffalo Bulls all but eliminated themselves with its loss Sunday.
The lone Broncos’ goal came in the 38th minute by sophomore defender Caitlin Henderson. Senior defender Emily Peterson threw the ball inbounds, and Henderson scored.
The final regular season game for WMU is at home this Thursday at 2 p.m., when the Broncos host the University of Northern Illinois Huskies, who are currently last in the MAC.
