Women’s tennis splits match-ups against Michigan State University and Brown University over break

The Western Michigan University women’s tennis team erased a three-match losing streak after defeating Michigan State University, 4-3, on Feb. 27 in East Lansing.
The Broncos and the Spartans battled for four and a half hours before the Brown and Gold emerged victorious. Clinching the win for the Lady Broncos was junior Amanda Moccia who defeated Amy Barton 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Senior Emily Dudzik also won at No. 1 singles over Michaela Silesova, 6-2, 6-3 while teammate Maggie Remynse won 6-3, 6-4 over Nicole Herzog at No. 2 singles.
Rachel Denny improved to 5-1 in dual matches after defeating Christine Milliken at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-0.
The Brown and Gold then kicked off an Ivy League road swing after travelling to Providence, R.I. to face No. 56 Brown University on Friday.
The Broncos pushed the Bears to three matches that lasted all three sets in singles, but Brown managed to hold on for the win, 6-1.
Moccia picked up Western Michigan’s only point after coming from behind to defeat Bianca Aboubakare 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 singles.
Freshman Maggie Remynse won the opening set against Misia Krasowski before falling, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Yumi Maatsuto, senior and WMU co-captain, took a one-set victory over Catherine Stewart at No. 5 singles but eventually fell, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
