Women’s tennis picks up fourth win in a row against Michigan State University

The Western Michigan University (7-5) women’s tennis team put a stop to a three-match losing streak after picking up a win against in-state rival, Michigan State University, 4-3, on Friday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
The Lady Broncos and the Lady Spartans battled for four and a half hours before the Brown and Gold walked away with the win.
Western Michigan junior Amanda Moccia cinched the win for her team after taking the victory against MSU’s Amy Barton. Despite dropping the first set against Barton, Moccia battled back to win, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
At the No. 1 singles spot, senior Emily Dudzik defeated Michaela Silesova (6-2, 6-3) while teammate Maggie Remynse took a victory over the Green and White’s Nicole Herzog at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-4).
Sophomore Rachel Denny also improved to 5-1 in dual matches after a 6-3, 6-0 win over Christine Milliken at the No. 6 singles slot.
In the doubles competition, the Spartans took the point after defeating the Broncos in all three match-ups.
Western Michigan will now take to the road for an Ivy League trip. The Lady Broncos will take on Brown University in Providence, R.I. on Friday, March 5, followed by a trip to Yale University on Sunday, March 7.
