The Western Michigan University women’s soccer team lost its opening game of the season in a nailbiter, 1-0, to the hosting Northern Colorado University Bears Friday night.
The Bears scored the game’s only goal in the 38th minute of the first half, when Daniell Brisdale lobbed at kick just under the crossbar.
The Lady Broncos only managed three shots on goal, and sophomore forward Stephanie Skowneski, accounted for two of them.
Sunday’s game seemed to be a mirror image of Friday’s game.
The team recorded its second straight 1-0 shutout road loss to the University of Wyoming. Again, the Bronco’s only managed three shots on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Julie Francy has saved 16 shots in the team’s first two games, and has only allowed one goal in each game, but the offense is still scoreless on the season.
The Lady Broncos will attempt to get that illusive first goal, and win, Friday, Sept.4, at 6pm, at the University of Northern Iowa Panther Invitational, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, against the Eastern Illinois University Panthers.
