WMU women’s tennis team defeats Marquette University

In the first match of their Sunday double header, Western Michigan University’s women’s tennis team defeated Marquette University 5-2 at the West Hills Athletic Club. With this victory, the Lady Broncos improve to 4-2 thus far in the season.
WMU got the early lead, winning two of the three doubles matches. The duo of Maria Nivia and Jill Pastunink clinched the doubles victory for the Broncos by beating the Golden Eagles’ Kristina Radan and Ali Dawson 8-6.
In singles, the Broncos traded victories with the Golden Eagles, but Western’s Nini Sujashvili clinched the victory at no. 1 by beating out Olga Fischer 6-4, 6-4. WMU’s final point of the day was scored at no. 4 by Jill Pastunink, as she defeated Ali Dawson 6-0, 2-6, 7-5.
With a 5-2 victory under their belt, the Brown and Gold next face off against Kalamazoo College for their evening match.
