WMU men’s tennis sweeps tripleheader at West Hills Athletic Club

The Western Michigan University (5-0) men’s tennis team swept a tripleheader on Saturday with wins over University of Dayton (7-0), Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (7-0) and Valparaiso University at West Hills Athletic Club.
The Broncos remain undefeated after winning 26 out of 27 matches over a span of seven-plus hours of playing.
Junior Michael Calderone led the way for the Brown and Gold, finishing the day 6-0 after two singles wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spot against IPFW. Calderone also won twice at the No. 2 and No. 1 doubles slots. With his six wins of the day adding to a total of 146 career wins, Calderone now moves into 24th all-time at Western Michigan.
Also victorious was junior Brad Noel, who finished the day 3-0 with a win at the No. 5 singles slot against Dayton’s Joe West (6-3, 6-4), a win at No. 4 singles against IPFW’s Junya Saruta (6-3, 6-0) and a win at No. 3 singles against Chris Baum of Valparaiso (6-2, 6-2).
For the doubles teams, junior Casey Cullen, and sophomore Zeyad Montasser joined the winning ranks by knocking off all three of their opponents.
Western Michigan will return to play on Friday in a doubleheader against Illinois State University at 11 a.m. and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay at 6 p.m. Both matches will be held at West Hills Athletic Club.
