WMU golfers shine on the course and in the classroom

Western Michigan University’s golf team had three of it’s golfers qualify for the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-Scholar Team in one season for the third time in a row.  Leah Grawburg, Kaylee Imel and Elise Swartout all qualified.  Swartout won out for the third year in a row.

Imel’s 4.00 GPA in accountancy led the way for the Broncos. She competed in all 10 events this past season. Her score was used in all but two of the 27 rounds and she also had a pair of top-20 finishes.

Grawburg finished her sophomore campaign with a 3.76 GPA.  As a secondary education major, she competed in all but one event this past season.  She set a new 36-hole career low with a 164 at the Red Rocks Invitational.

Swartout carried a 3.51 GPA in management. She was a recipient of the James F. Coyne Memorial Scholarship during the last two years of her collegiate career.  She became only the fourth Bronco ever to earn a spot on the Academic All-MAC Team.

The Ann Arbor, Mich. native also joined former teammate Thorne as one of only two Broncos to qualify for the NGCA All-Scholar Team three straight years.  Grawburg will have a chance to match that in 2011.
