The Western Michigan University track and field team travelled to Notre Dame University on Friday and Saturday to take part in the Meyo Invitational.

On day one of competition, the Brown and Gold opened with a great showing as junior Ashley Hunault broke her own school record in the indoor long jump with a distance of 19 feet, nine inches. She broke her previous record of 19 feet, seven inches to take fifth place overall among some of the nation’s top competitors.

Senior Jennifer Roberts also set a personal best in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:09.88. Roberts came awfully close to the time she was aiming for, which was a time of 17 minutes flat.

On Saturday, the Brown and Gold wrapped up competition at Notre Dame with personal bests from several freshmen.

Most notable was the team of freshmen Jeriesha Tucker and Iris Campbell, sophomores Leya Munwam and Hunault who set the fastest time this year in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:45.56.

Running the lead leg for the Lady Broncos was Tucker, who finished second in the exchange. Hunault managed to close the gap between Illinois State University’s runner by running a 55.50 split and Campbell stayed close to Illinois State, putting both teams side-by-side for the final hand-off. As the final leg, Munwam passed the Redbirds for the win.

Campbell also ran a personal best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.05. In the 60-meter hurdles, she ran another personal best with 9.01.

In the 800-meter run, every Bronco runner finished with a season-best time. Tucker led the Brown and Gold with a time of 2:15.90 while freshman Rachel Whitley finished close behind with 2:19.89.

Rounding out the competition was freshman Cara Cremeans who ran a season-best in the mile run with a time of 5:09.20.
