Saturday March 23 was a great day to be a Western Michigan University baseball fan, as the team collected their third and fourth straight wins on the road by defeating Bowling Green State University in both games of a double header, (4-3), (4-3).
In the first game against the Falcons of Bowling Green, the Broncos showed no mercy racking up four runs off three hits and one hit batter in the first inning alone. Andrew Sohn, Jared Kujawa and Patrick Duncan each contributed a hit.
A combined effort from the pitchers helped secure the win. Steve Laudicina was awarded the win, with help from Monty Porter and two innings from Gabe Berman the Broncos were in good shape.
There was a bit of a scare in the seventh inning when Bowling Green rallied to score two runs making it 4-3, but Berman put a stop to that and the Broncos cruised through the last two innings for a win.
WMU used seven hits from seven different players to get the win in the second game of the double header. Left fielder Vinnie Booker had a hit, an RBI, scored a run and stole a base in the contest.
The Broncos had to fight their way back from an early deficit as the Falcons scored two runs in the first inning. After hits from Hunter Prince and Sohn, along with a few throwing errors by Bowling Green in the third inning, the Broncos were on top 3-2.
WMU will look to continue its winning streak when they travel to Ann Arbor, March 27, for a battle against the University of Michigan Wolverines. The Broncos are now 7-15 overall.
