Western Michigan’s Gill named NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge alternate

By Katrina Murphy

Western Michigan University’s Riley Gill has been named an alternate for the 2010 NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge on April 9 at Ford Field.

If Northern Michigan University’s Brian Steward and the Air Force’s Andrew Volkening are unable to participate, Gill will take their place.

Gill recently finished his fourth and final season at WMU, leaving his mark all over the record books.  He finished with the school record in save percentage in a career and in a season, as well as holding the career mark for shutouts with eight.

Gill appeared in 111 games during his career for the Broncos, third all-time among WMU goalies and also finished his career with 39 wins.

As the fourth Bronco to be selected as an alternate, he joins the ranks of Paul Szczechura, Patrick Galivan and Brent Walton.  Both Szczechura and Walton signed professional contacts, making them ineligible to participate, so Galivan is the only Brown and Gold player to have participated in the skills challenge.
