Western Herald Super Bowl XLIV Picks

One thing is for certain – in order for the New Orleans Saints to even have a chance to win Super Bowl XLIV, they will need to slow down the Indianapolis Colts’ offense.
This year, the Colts are running on a high-octane offense with wide receivers Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie combining for an ultimate duo. While playing against the New York Jets on December 27, both Collie and Garcon joined for 274 yards.
Putting together their running game and Peyton Manning’s arm, the Colts seem unstoppable.
Colts win, 34-27.
Mitch Barnett
The Saints will win the game because they will continually keep pressure on Peyton Manning like they did to Brett Farve against the Vikings. The Saints will also have a strong game on offense if Colts defensive lineman Dwight Freeney doesn’t play due to the injury he suffered in the AFC Championship game against the Jets.
Saints win, 38-35.
Katherine Lynn
It’s time for the Saints to take home a win after all this time and it would be nice for New Orleans. Also, they want it more and their fans are going to keep them on their feet.
Saints win, 17-14.
A.J. Reed
A hurt Dwight Freeney will allow Drew Brees to pick the Colts apart.
Saints win, 30-27.
Scott Sierzenga
Peyton Manning will eventually hold every major passing category in NFL history and will undoubtedly be considered the greatest quarterback of all-time. Never go against Manning under any circumstances. The Colts defense is much better than the Saints defense and both offenses are comparable. If Indiana can establish any sort of run game, they will seal the deal. Also, the Colts haven’t lost a game yet this season when they had their starters play all four quarters. New Orleans’ inexperience won’t help as the Colts have history winning a Super Bowl in Miami.
Colts win, 31-20.
Chris Willis
Darren Sharper will win the MVP after picking off Manning twice, with one for a touchdown. Brees doesn’t turn the ball over and the Saints who escaped the NFC title game on pure luck will win their first Super Bowl.
Saints win, 35-31.
Eric Woodyard
My pick for this year’s Super Bowl is simple: Peyton Manning. The New Orleans Saints are tough and they will put up a tough fight, but the act of betting against Manning in the Super Bowl is equivalent to betting that Western Michigan University will give us a snow day tomorrow – it just won’t happen. Manning is back in the same city that he won his last Super Bowl, he’s staying in the same hotel and he will get the same results. His precision and focus to the nuances of the sport will propel him to the top and I predict him to win the Super Bowl MVP again as well.
Colts win, 21-14.
Nicholas Grenke
The injury to Dwight Freeney and the Saints playing the “We don’t get any respect around here” card will contribute to the win. After all, do we need to see more Peyton Manning commercials, which are sure to pour in, if the Colts win?
Saints win, 41-35.
