Western Herald sports thought of the day
Before the NCAA tournament started, ESPN got President Barack Obama to fill out a complete bracket predicting the outcomes of each game.
On a side note, Obama has 14 of his sweet 16 games correct, which is more than I can say for most people. I think it’s awesome that we have a president that understands the need to interact with the people of America and act normal.
The real reason for my thought is because there were people saying that he shouldn’t be doing this; he should be spending more time on the economy or saying he doesn’t have anything better to do. I think waking up at 6 a.m. and talking about the economy until bedtime is enough time to talk about it. The man deserves a break.
Second, Duke men’s basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski made a comment and was legitimately mad that Obama didn’t take Duke to the Final Four. Hello? Am I missing something, Mike? Nobody in their right mind took Duke to the Final Four; why on earth would Obama take you guys?
Every year Duke underachieves in the tournament, and every year I expect nothing more or less than a loss in the Sweet 16 from them.
Maybe if they would have spent a little more time preparing for Texas (a game Duke snuck out in the second round) and against Villanova (a game in which Duke got destroyed in the Sweet 16), instead of worrying about the president’s picks, there might be a chance the Blue Devils could be in the Elite Eight.
Well, now that I think about it, probably not, but it doesn’t matter either way.
Coach Krzyzewski, there is a good chance you did not take yourself past the Sweet 16 in your bracket, so don’t get mad at President Obama for not doing it.
