Kalamazoo running enthusiasts will have the opportunity to run alongside of a U.S. Olympian next week.
Kim Conley, an athlete who ran in the women’s 5,000-meter event in the London Olympics, will be making an appearance in downtown Kalamazoo on Sept. 19 to run with area residents and also to discuss her Olympic experience.
Conley will participate in the weekly run of the Urban Herd, a group from the downtown Gazelle Sports location that runs each Wednesday through the city streets. The public is always welcome to join the Urban Herd on any given week, but the run on Wednesday will be special – it’s the chance to run with an Olympian. Runners will leave Gazelle Sports at 6 p.m.
At 7 p.m., after the run has concluded, the community is invited to participate in a question and answer session with Conley at Gazelle Sports.
This isn’t the first time Gazelle Sports has had an athlete come to Kalamazoo. “We’re always trying to bring unique opportunities for our customers and community,” said Tim Martin, assistant manager of the downtown Gazelle Sports store.
“Whenever the opportunity presents itself, we will do everything we can to be able to bring them here and do something with the community as well as some kind of question and answer period,” Martin said.
This time is a little more special, though.
“This is the first true Olympian we’ve had come,” Martin said.
Feel free to run with Conley and the Urban Herd on Wednesday, or simply come for the question and answer time to meet her and discuss her Olympic experience.
Gazelle Sports is located on the South Kalamazoo Mall, and street parking in downtown Kalamazoo is free after 5 p.m.
