The Western Michigan University track and field team found success at the Notre Dame Indoor Opener on Friday, capturing five individual events as well as a first-place finish in the 4×400 relay.
Starting off the night for the Lady Broncos were the throwers, led by senior Irene Cooper, who took first in the weight throw with a total distance of 63 feet, 9.75 inches. Western Michigan also took first and second place in the shot put, with junior Stephanie Mitchell taking first and Cooper close behind in second.
Capturing the third title for the Brown and Gold was senior Alexis Brown, who took first in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 6 inches. On top of high jump, Brown also competed in the 400 meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles.
Junior Ashley Hunault took first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.79 seconds. Hunault also took a third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles and a fourth place in the 200 meter dash.
Earning a personal best time and just missing out on a top five-time in WMU history in the 3,000 meter run was senior distance runner Jennifer Roberts, who took a first place finish with a time of 10:03.97.
Also taking a first place finish was the 4×400 meter relay team made up of Leya Munwam, Iris Campbell, Jeriesha Tucker and Victoria Chatman. The team finished with a time of 3:50.53.
The Lady Broncos take to the road again Friday and Saturday to compete in the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana University.
