Tim Hiller has become the first male Western Michigan University student-athlete to be named a recipient of the Bob James Memorial Award.
The award recognizes one female and one male student-athlete who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5. Recipients must also display good character, leadership and citizenship skills.
The student-athletes are selected during the year they complete their last season of eligibility. The $5,000 post-graduate scholarship goes to the university’s general scholarship fund.
Hiller is the first male student-athlete from WMU to win the award and the first Bronco to win it in 18 years. The last Bronco to do so was Julie Brown, volleyball, back in 1992.
Hiller became the football program’s career leader in passing attempts, completions, completion percentage, yards, touchdowns, total offense, total offensive plays and 300-yard games.
Off the field, he completed his undergraduate degree with a perfect 4.0 GPA and currently maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA in pursuit of his MBA.
Hiller is currently a member of the Indianapolis Colts.
