Senior quarterback Tim Hiller, senior running back Brandon West and sophomore punter Ben Armer are all on preseason watch list for national awards.

Hiller was named to the Davey O’Brien Watch List by the Football Writers Association Monday. All quarterbacks of the 120 schools in Division I FBS, formerly Division I-A, are eligible, but only 33 are on the list.  The award focuses on quarterbacks who have shown great preseason talent and focuses on, on and off field performances.

Hiller threw for 3,725 yards last season with 36 touchdowns last season and carries a 4.0 GPA in business and marketing.  He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in August 2008.

University of Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford won the award in 2008.

West has been named a candidate for the Doak Walker Award, which is awarded to the nation’s best running back. West piled up 1,026 yards last season and is currently sixth on the Western Michigan University career all-time list with 2.507 career yards.

University of Iowa running back Shonn Greene, now of the New York Jets, was awarded the 2008 Doak Walker Award.

The Ray Guy Award is awarded to the nation’s top punter. Only nine punters in the nation were selected for the list and Armer is one of them. Last season, he averaged 40.6 yards on his punts and had 11 punts of 50 yards or more.

Oklahoma State University punter Matt Fodge, now on the Dallas Cowboys, won the award in 2008.
