Strimel named MAC West Volleyball Player of the Week

Junior libero Caitlin Strimel has been named the named the Mid-American Conference West Volleyball Player of the Week.

Strimel helped lead the Broncos to two wins over MAC rivals Northern Illinois University and Miami University of Ohio last week. She had 15 digs in Thursday’s match against NIU and added 29 in Saturday’s meeting with Miami, averaging 6.29 digs per set. NIU and Miami were held to a .107 combined attack percentage with the help of Strimel.

This is Strimel’s second time winning the award. She picked up the award on Oct. 1, 2007 following a 77-dig effort in three contests against the University of Illinois at Chicago, Eastern Michigan University and Central Michigan University. She is the reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Strimel is the third Bronco to win the award this season. Junior setter Jillian Mitchell earned the first honor on Sept. 8 after earning the Most Valuable Player honor at the Redbird Classic in Normal, Ill. Sophomore middle blocker Jaime Gotham won Player of the Week on Sept. 22 after leading the Broncos to two wins at the Golden Dome Invitational in South Bend, Ind.

After opening their home schedule last weekend, the Broncos (11-2, 2-0) will hit the road for two matches this weekend. The Brown and Gold will travel to Eastern Michigan University Friday and Central Michigan University on Saturday.
