On Monday, it was announced that the Western Michigan University men’s basketball team will travel to Carbondale, Ill., on Feb. 20 to play Southern Illinois University in ESPNU’s BracketBusters.
For the all-time series, the Brown and Gold trail 1-3 after falling to SIU on Dec. 22, 2008 in a 64-46 decision. The last victory against the Salukis came on Dec. 18, 2007.
Leading the Broncos last season was guard David Kool, who contributed 12 points while teammate Shawntes Gary added 10.
Center Donald Lawson evened things out with a then career-high 11 rebounds.
In return Southern Illinois will come to Kalamazoo during the 2011-12 season as part of the BracketBusters scheduling arrangement and a change made by the Conference Commissioners Association in 2008.
By pushing the return game back by 18 months, it will give each team the opportunity to play one “home” game and one “away” game each season during the BracketBuster event.
