Men’s basketball announces non-conference schedule

Illinois, VCU, Temple among 2009-10 foes

The Bronco men’s basketball squad announced its 2009-10 non-conference schedule Saturday.

WMU will have six non-league rematches from last season facing, which include the University of Detroit-Mercy (Nov. 15), Virginia Commonwealth University (Nov. 18), Loyola University Chicago (Nov. 23), College of the Holy Cross (Nov. 28), Eastern Illinois University (Dec. 9) and Sam Houston State University (Jan 3.)

The VCU, Holy Cross and Sam Houston State matchups will be at home. WMU beat Sam Houston State and Detroit-Mercy last season, but were on the losing end to VCU, Loyola, Holy Cross and Eastern Illinois.

Other non-conference home games include Temple University (Dec. 1), Kennesaw State University (Dec. 19) and an exhibition game with the University of  Michigan-Dearborn (Jan. 5) before the Mid-American Conference season starts.

The Broncos will face the University of Illinois at Assembly Hall in Champaign, Ill. Dec. 13 and will participate in Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii on Dec. 22-25.
Illinois, VCU and Temple were in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

The match ups for the Diamond Head Classic have not been announced, but the field also includes College of Charleston, the University of Hawaii, Northeastern University, Southern Methodist University, University of Southern California, St. Mary’s College of California and the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

The MAC portion of the schedule will be announced at a later time.
