Valpo 3 WMU 0 Final
The Crusaders took the third set 25-20, but had to hold off a late Bronco run to win the set. Valpo was up 24-18, but WMU would build a 5-0 run, cutting the lead to 24-23. However, it was too little too late as a Val Bollenbacher kill gave Valpo the match win. In stats, the match seemed very close as WMU hit .243 for the match and Valpo hit .248. The Broncos couldn’t stop Valpo outside hitter Angie Porche, who compliled 20 kills in the match. Middle Blocker Allison Sears had 30 kills and three blocks as well for the Crusaders. As for the Broncos, Michelle Moore and Kate Corbett led the team with 11 kills each and Katie Eberling chipped in with 10 kills. Coach Collen Munson was short for words and only said Valpo came in ready to play and that her squad didn’t play well at all. It appears as the season may be over. The Broncos end their season at 26-6 and tonight’s loss will not impress the NCAA Tournament Selection Comittee. However, the Broncos will continue to hope and pray that they make the “Big Dance.” The NCAA Volleyball Selection is Sunday at 10 p.m. on ESPNU
Other Notes:
This was WMU’s first time WMU has been swept at home since losing to Ball State University 3-0 on Nov. 10, 2007, which was also WMU’s last loss at home.
The Broncos finish the season 9-1 at University Arena this season.
The team dedicated their first 28 kills to get senior Ashley Vogl to 1,000 career kills.
Valpo 2 WMU 0 After 2 sets
The Crusaders won the set 25-22 and have found a way to slow the Bronco offense. WMU hit .250 for the set, but match of that came at the end of the set. Valpo jumped out to a early lead, but WMU came back to tie the set at 17. Valpo would build their lead back up to 24-19, but the Broncos tried to put together a late set comeback. The Broncos won the next three rallys, but an Angie Porche kill gave the Crusaders the set. The Broncos have to find a way to stop Porche. She had seven kills in the second set and has 12 for the match. Allison Sears has been killing the Broncos with nine kills as well. For WMU, Moore and Corbett lead the team with nine kills each. The Broncos are hitting only .220 for the match. I’ll have more after the third set.
Valpo 1 WMU 0 After 1 set
Valpo won the first 26-24 behind five kills each by Alison Sears and Angie Porche. The two teams were close the whole set, but Valpo put together a late run to go up 22-19. Jaime Gotham came up big at the end of the set one, with three blocks at the end of the set, but it wasn’t enough as Valpo won final two rallys behind a WMU error and a Tara Newton. These two teams are very close and a veyr similar offense. Michelle Moore, Allyson Doyle and Kate Corbett had four kills each in the opening set. I’ll have more at the 10-minute break.
