Indiana 23 WMU 19 Final

(Chyn Wey Lee/Western Herald) Quarterback Drew Burdi scores on a quarterback draw in Saturday's game against Indiana.
What a crazy final few minutes of play. It looked like as if WMU was done with about five minutes left in the fourth quarter, but Austin Pritchard blocked Nick Freeland’s field goal attempt and the Broncos took over. Western Michigan marched all the way down the field, but with a lot of help with Indiana’s multiple penalties. IU had four penatlies for 51 yards on WMU’s potential scoring drive in the fourth and the Broncos all the way down to the 11-yard line, but Aaron Winchester fumbled on the 8 yard line and the Hoosiers recoverd. Indiana would run three and out and then take a safety. The Broncos had one last shot with 23 seconds left and the Broncos went to the Indiana 45 yard line and tried multiple laterals, but to no success.
WMU is now 0-2 on the season and Indiana improves to 2-0. The Broncos will have their home opener a week from today with CommUniverCity Night against Miami University of Ohio at Waldo Stadium. Check westernherald.com tonight and Monday’s Western Herald for complete coverage of WMU vs Indiana.
Indiana 17 WMU 7 End of 1st Half

The Hoosiers have been tearing apart the Bronco defense with 248 total yards in the first half (144 rushung, 104 passing). The Broncos only have 96 yards of offense and just like last week against Michigan, WMU got off to a slow start.
IU started the game by marching down the field in a 12-yard 76 play drive in 2:12 and scored with a Nick Freeland 21-yard field goal and that was all the scoring there was in the first half.
IU would get on the board again when quarterback Ben Chappell scored a 1-yard touchdown run on a quarterback sneak to get into the end zone. IU went up 10-0 at that point.
The Broncos would finally get on the board with 9:07 left in the second. Hiller was 4-for-8 on the scoring drive, including a 21-yard pass to Robert Arnheim to get to the Indiana 36-yard line. The scoring play was a 7 yard touchdown run by quarterback Drew Brudi. We can’t confirm or deny if Hiller was on the field or not. Normally when Burdi is in at QB, Hiller will be linned up at wide receiver.
The Broncos would then give up a big play when IU running back Demetrius McCray scored a 59-yard rushing touchdown, capping a two play, 63 yard drive in 40 seconds for Indiana. The Hoosiers then went up 17-7.
Hiller is currently 9-for-17 with 79 yards, while Chappell is 10-for-15 with 104 passing yards. The Broncos can’t stop the Indiana rushing attack. McCray leads the IU rushers with 88 yards and a touchdown. Indiana also has dominated the time of possesion battle, leading 16:28-13:32. The Hoosiers had the ball for a majority of the first quarter.
I’ll have more after the game.
Good afternoon everyone. I am live from Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind. for today’s football game between Western Michigan University (0-1) and Indiana University (1-0).
The Broncos are coming off a 31-7 loss to the University of Michigan, while the Hoosiers beat Eastern Kentucky University 19-13 last week. IU is led by quarterback Ben Chappell, who had a career-high 326 passing yards against EKU last week. Indiana had 326 total yards of offense against Eastern Kentukcy, but had three turnovers, which kept the score tight.
The Bronco defense played very well in the second half last week, giving up no points in the second half to Michigan. We’ll see if that play will carry over to this week. Tim Hiller did not look like himeself last week and we’ll also see if he looks like the NFL prospect that he is against the Hoosiers today.
WMU is looking for its first win ever over Indiana. The Hoosiers are 4-0 all-time against the Broncos, with IU winning the last meeting 37-27 in 2007 at Waldo Stadium.
I’ll have more after the first quarter.
