Live Football Blog: WMU 48 Miami 12

End of Third. More after the game.

The Broncos have come out strong in the first half and Miami still has not scored a point yet this season. On the first play from scrimmage, Miami running back Thomas Merriweather fumbled at the 24-yard line. The fumble was recovered by WMU safety Jamail Berry, who took it to the house for a Bronco touchdown.

The Broncos then got on the board again with 9:29 left in the first when Tim Hiller completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Juan Nunez on a nine play, 60 yard drive in 3:04.

Berry would then intercept Miami QB Daniel Raudabaughan, but the Broncos could do nothing with it as John Potter missed a 45-yard field goal.

The Broncos would get the ball back when Miami’s Dustin Wood fumbled a punt return and WMU recovered at the 31-yard line.

Robert Arnheims would then come in and complete a 30-yard pass to Nunez to bring the Broncos down to the Miami 38. The Broncos would drive to the 1-yard line and then score on a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end Blake Hammond. The pass was Hiller’s 80th career touchdown and Hammond’s first career touchdown catchup and first career reception. The score put WMU up 21-0.

After that, only two Western Michigan quarterbacks have 80 or more career touchdowns — Hiller and Tim Lester.

The Broncos would then go up 28-0 when Hiller connected with Nunez on a 16-yard touchdown pass with 2:07 left in the first. This is the first time that Nunez has had two touchdown receptions in his career.

WMU has 219 total yards of offense (125 passing, 12 rushing), while the RedHawks have only 139 total yards (143 passing, nine rushing). Hiller is 12-for-21 with 125 yards and three touchdowns, while Raudaugh is 13-for-22 for 143 yards and an interception. I’ll have more after the third quarter.

Good evening everyone as it’s the first home of the season for the Western Michigan University football team. The Broncos welcome Miami University of Ohio to Kalamazoo for CommUniverCity Night and it’s also the first Mid-American Conference matchup for both teams.

Miami (0-2) comes into tonight’s game one of only two Division I FBS not to score a point. The University of Nevada is the other. The RedHawks lost to the University of Kentucky 42-0 Sept. 5 and were defeated by No. 10 Boise State University 48-0 last Saturday.

When you look at the RedHawks, they have given up a lot of offense and having gotten many yards on offense. MU has only has 191 total yards of offense this season, 141 of those yards are the through the air as the RedHawks have struggled to get the rushing game going.

Miami QB Daniel Raudabaugh comes into tonight’s game with 281 total yards and four interceptions. As for the defense, they have given up 929 total yards this season.

As for WMU (0-2), they’re coming off a heartbreaking 23-19 loss to Indiana University last Saturday. The Broncos have struggled to get off to fast starts in both its games against the University of Michigan and the Hoosiers. We’ll see if Western Michigan can get that fixed against Miami tonight. I’ll have more after the 1st quarter.
