Lady Broncos finish strong on final day of MAC Championships

The Lady Broncos finished up the second day of competition with two more MAC titles and finished in third place overall Saturday night.
The Brown and Gold finished in third place with a total of 92 points behind Central Michigan in second place with 100 points and Kent State in first place with 107 points.
Junior Victoria Chatman won her first career indoor MAC title, taking first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.62, just beating out Eastern Michigan’s Asia Rawls in a photo finish. The junior also took seventh place in the 200-meter dash to score for the Broncos.
Freshman Iris Campbell finished just in front of Chatman, taking sixth place and scoring in her first career MAC championship.
Senior Jennifer Roberts went out on top in her final race as a Bronco, taking first place in the 3,000-meter dash with a time of 9:59.49, earning her first career MAC title.
Another freshman, Cara Cremeans, came close to winning the 800-meter run but finished in second place with a time of 2:16.81. Fellow freshman Rachel Whitley was close behind, finishing in sixth place and scoring three points for WMU.
Cremeans also competed in the mile run, finishing in fourth place with a time of 5:02.53 to earn five more points for Western Michigan in her first MAC Championship.
Irene Cooper competed with a personal-best in shot put with a distance of 48 feet, 5.25 inches for fourth place.
Sarah Ross also scored for the first time in her career in pole vault, earning seventh place with a jump of 11 feet, 5.75 inches.
The 4×400-meter relay team consisting of Ashley Hunault, Campbell, Leya Munwam and Chatman finished in second place with a time of 3:48.01.
Select members of the Brown and Gold will head to Notre Dame University for the Alex Invitational for one last chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. on Friday, March 5.
