Lady Bronco gymnastics team falls short at Northern Illinois University

After a strong start to the season, the Lady Bronco gymnastics team fell short at their second MAC dual meet at Northern Illinois on Sunday.
Headed into the final rotation, the Lady Broncos held the lead (143.325 to 142.475) but were edged out by the Huskies in the end. Northern Illinois scored their best of the day in the final rotation, earning a score of 48.125 while the Brown and Gold only collected a score of 46.350.
For the Lady Broncos, junior Kristine Garbarino led the way, taking first in three of four areas – vault, beam and bars. Garbarino tied for first-place honors on the vault with Northern Illinois’s Natalie Sutter and Natalie Blum. She also tied for first on the beam with the Huskies’ Tanya Rachan with a score of 9.750. Garbarino took first in the bars with 9.725 and placed third on the floor with a score of 9.750.
Other strong performers for Western Michigan were sophomore Meghan Donovan who posted a score of 9.675 on the bars, and freshman Caroline O’Brien, who posted a score of 9.675 on the beam. Both finished third in their respective areas.
The Lady Broncos (1-1 MAC) take the road to Normal, Ill., on Sunday to compete against Illinois State at 1 p.m.
