Senior guard of the Western Michigan University men’s basketball team, David Kool was named the MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week on Friday by the Mid-American Conference.
This is the fourth time this season and sixth time overall that Kool has been given this honor.
Kool’s four awards this season have tied him with Central Michigan University’s Dan LeFevour, quarterback for the Chippewas, for the most by any male athlete in the conference.
This season, Kool (3.43 GPA, physical education major) averaged 34.0 points, 2.0 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.5 rebounds to become WMU’s all-time career leading scorer with 1,828 points, which also tied him for 19th all-time in MAC history.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week award is granted to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a GPA of 3.0 or higher and plays well during weekly competition. The winners are chosen by a group of the conference’s faculty athletic representatives.
