Kings drop two games to Miners

(Western Herald file photo) Kings outfielder Joe Ramos had two hits and two RBIs in the Kings’ 4-2 loss to the Southern Illinois Miners Saturday.
Following a three game midweek sweep of the Evansville Otters, the Kalamazoo Kings dropped two contests to the Southern Illinois Miners, falling 5‑4 on Friday and 4‑2 on Saturday.
Despite the defeats, starting pitching was solid for the Kings in both contests. Trent Lare (0‑2) gave up five runs (three earned) off seven hits throughout six innings on Friday, with two walks and four strikeouts.
On Saturday Bernard Robert also survived six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) off seven hits. Robert did not walk any batter and also struck out five.
At the plate, Brandon Anderson and Joe Ramos led the way for Kalamazoo. Anderson went a combined 4‑for‑9 in the leadoff slot, improving his batting average to .394 in the early part of the season.
Batting right behind Anderson, Ramos was not far behind. Ramos went a combined 3‑for‑8 in both games and added four RBIs. Ramos is now hitting .364 in the early part of the season.
The Kings will stay on the road to battle the Otters for a three game set starting on Tuesday.
