Is this the greatest NFL Hall of Fame class ever?

Last Saturday night, the newest class of National Football League legends got inducted into the pro-football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

This year’s class of seven featured, most notibly, the NFL’s all-time rushing leader, Dallas Cowboy Emmitt Smith, and the all-time receiving leader, San Francisco 49er Jerry Rice. Joining them were one of the Washington Redskins famous “Hogs”, Russ Grimm. Two excellent pass-rushers including the New Orleans Saints Rickey Jackson and the Minnesota Vikings John Randle, Denver Broncos former star running back Floyd Little.

Finally, Detroit Lions cornerback Dick LeBeau, who is still third all time in interceptions by a cornerback with 62, all joined the club also.

This very well may be the greatest HOF class in NFL history. If it isn’t, it’s a close second to the 1971 class which inducted, Y.A. Tittle, Norm Van Brocklin, Jim Brown, and  coaching legend Vince Lombardi, who the Super Bowl Trophy is named after.

Of all the players in league history, only 260 wear the esteemed “yellow-jacket,” and have their bust in Canton.

This year’s class is special because many of its inductees weren’t predicted to be legends of the gridiron. All overcame many adversities to reach this pinnacle. Emmitt wasn’t big enough, neither was Floyd. Dick wasn’t tough enough. Jerry came from a no-name school. John went undrafted.Rickey had to fight to be a starter, and we all know that offensive lineman are often overlooked in Russ.

One thing that this class possesses is heart, and that’s what the NFL has always been about.

The HOF inducion ceremony is an annual event that kicks-ff every NFL season.

So gear up NFL fans. break out those jerseys and hoodies, because Fall is around the corner.  Its that time of the year and we all have the same aspirations.

“It’s Super Bowl or bust!”
